William Buckland was a famous British scientist. In the 1830s,· he hosted strange dinner parties. He served unusual foods,· like a mouse on toast.

Buckland had unusual habits but he studied geology at Oxford University and he became a respected person in science. He wanted to change old ways of thinking and ideas in the Bible,· by studying fossils. Buckland discovered the Megalosaurus bones,· which helped people understand dinosaurs better. His wife Mary also loved science and supported his work.

Buckland wanted to eat every animal on Earth. He didn’t manage to do that,· but he showed that science can be exciting and fun.
